Episode 58 of the SERVICOM Help Desk Radio Programme held on the 12th March 2019, the National Coordinator/CEO Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli thanked the Ordinary President and his team for the good work they are doing and said SERVICOM has brought to the studio, National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA) to enlighten citizens on what they do and explain their service delivery processes .
Barr. Adeola Ayeomi said NACA is an Agency of Government under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) and was set up 12 years ago to coordinate all stake holders that work in the HIV sector and to see to the stoppage of the spread of the disease .
He said a lot had been gained over the spread of disease as it is now lower than what is use to be adding that in 2014, a law was passed against stigmatization and discrimination of HIV Patients.
Mrs. Esther Ikomi who tok time to enlighten the public on HIV / AIDS said “If you have HIV, it does not mean that you have AIDS, the only way to know is to go for a test, if you are positive then you will be placed on treatment and it is for life and you have to be consistent with the medication in other to suppress the Virus”.
“Hand shaking, hugging and kissing does not give HIV except if the person has injuries in his mouth and is not on treatment, HIV is not in the urine, it is only in the blood”, she said, adding however that it was advisable for people to get their own clipper, niddle or razor for use in places like barbing saloon.
She explained further that all HIV/AIDS test are free in every Hospital and strongly advised pregnant women to check their status in order to avoid mother to child transmission of the disease.
